Signs of Alcoholism
Alcoholism is a chronic and disabling disease characterised by physical and psychological dependence on alcohol which affects individuals, families and society. Signs of alcoholism include drinking large amounts of alcohol or drinking alcohol frequently, being unable to stop drinking, having withdrawal symptoms when not drinking, neglecting responsibilities and having negative effects on relationships. Alcoholism can significantly impair an individual's physical and mental health, and can be fatal if not treated. Effective treatments for alcoholism include behavioural therapies, such as counselling, and medications, such as disulfiram.
