Alcoholism Disease
Alcoholism is a chronic, progressive, and potentially fatal disease that is characterised by an uncontrollable desire to consume alcohol and a psychological and/or physical dependence on it. It is associated with numerous health problems including liver disease, pancreatic disease, cancer, cardiovascular problems and mental health issues. Furthermore, it can have a damaging impact on the individual’s relationships, work and overall quality of life. Therefore, it is important to identify and treat alcoholism in its early stages to prevent further damage and reduce the risks associated with this chronic and potentially fatal disease. Treatment typically involves psychotherapy and medication along with lifestyle changes to promote recovery.
