Addictive Disorders
Addictive disorders are a group of mental illnesses characterized by intense cravings and compulsive behaviors related to the use of certain substances or activities. These disorders include substance use disorders, such as alcohol and drug abuse, and behavioral addictions, such as gambling, video gaming, and eating disorders. People with addictive disorders experience intense urges to engage in activities that can disrupt their health, relationships, and quality of life. Treatment often involves a combination of medications, lifestyle changes, and counseling or psychotherapy to help the person gain control of their behaviors. With appropriate treatment, people can gain control of their lives and work to realize their full potential.
