Vibrio Vulnificus
Vibrio vulnificus is a Gram-negative, halophilic bacterium found in marine environments, particularly in the brackish and warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Vibrio vulnificus is an important human pathogen, as it can cause a severe and life-threatening infection if consumed in contaminated food or water, or via open wounds. This bacteria can also cause skin infections, as well as septic shock and wound infections. Vibrio vulnificus is an important human health concern, as it can cause severe illness and death in vulnerable populations, such as those with weakened immune systems, impairments in liver health and those with other chronic illnesses. Thus, the detection and control of Vibrio vulnificus outbreaks is of utmost importance for public health, as well as for recreational and commercial fishing and aquaculture industries.
