Taeniasis
Taeniasis is a parasitic infection caused by the tapeworm species Taenia saginata, Taenia solium, and Taenia asiatica. It can be acquired through consumption of raw or undercooked beef, pork or fish that contain tapeworm larvae. Symptoms of taeniasis can range from mild to severe and include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and weight loss. In some cases, the tapeworm heads may cause cysticercosis, an infection of the brain or other organs, if they enter the bloodstream. Treatment for taeniasis involves medications, such as niclosamide or praziquantel, to kill the adult worms. Proper education of food safety and proper cooking techniques are essential for the prevention of taeniasis.
