Sore Throat
A sore throat is an inflammation or irritation of the throat that can cause pain and discomfort. It is usually caused by a virus or bacteria, but can also be caused by environmental factors such as smoking, air pollution, or allergies. A sore throat is a common symptom of upper respiratory infections such as the common cold and influenza. It can also be a sign of a more serious condition such as strep throat or tonsillitis. Treatment of a sore throat usually involves pain relief medications, throat lozenges, and/or gargling with salt water. In some cases, antibiotics may be prescribed if a bacterial infection is present. Along with proper treatment, drinking plenty of fluids, breathing humidified air, and getting adequate rest can help to reduce the severity and duration of a sore throat.
