Shigella

Shigella is a genus of bacteria belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae family that are responsible for causing an infection known as shigellosis. It is one of the most common causes of diarrhea, mostly affecting children and is spread primarily through food or water contaminated by infected feces. Symptoms of shigellosis include watery or bloody diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, and vomiting. Treatment of shigellosis is done with antibiotics and in some cases, people may need to be hospitalized. It is important to practice good hygiene and sanitation to help reduce the spread of Shigella.
