Salmonella Typhi

Salmonella Typhi is a type of salmonella bacteria found in humans that is responsible for causing typhoid fever. It is most commonly spread through contaminated food or water. Symptoms of infection include fever, headache, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and constipation. Complications of typhoid fever can include intestinal bleeding, kidney failure, and death. Treatment for typhoid fever includes antibiotics, rest, hydration, and good nutrition. Vaccines are available for prevention of infection. Salmonella Typhi is a major health concern for those living in and travelling to areas with poor sanitation and is seen most commonly in Africa, Asia, and South and Central America.
