Hantavirus

Hantavirus is an important type of virus which can cause hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS), a severe and often deadly respiratory disease in humans. It is typically transmitted to humans through the inhalation of airborne particles from the feces, urine, or saliva of an infected rodent. Hantaviruses can cause a range of symptoms, including fever, muscle aches, headache, nausea, and vomiting, and can sometimes lead to respiratory failure and death. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are essential in order to improve survival. Though rarely contracted, hantavirus is an important virus to be aware of and avoidance of contact with wild rodents is key in prevention of transmission.
