Cyanobacterial Toxins

Cyanobacterial toxins are a variety of toxins produced by cyanobacteria, a type of bacteria that lives in aquatic environments. These toxins are highly toxic to humans and animals, and can cause severe illnesses such as hepatotoxicity, neurotoxicity and dermatotoxicity. Cyanobacterial toxins can also be a threat to the environment, leading to significant water quality issues in contaminated water bodies. Therefore, it is important to monitor and manage cyanobacterial populations to prevent the production of toxins and protect water resources. In addition, cyanobacterial toxins have been studied for their potential therapeutic uses, and some of them have shown promise in treating certain types of cancers. Finally, cyanobacterial toxins are also used as a source of bioactive compounds for the pharmaceutical and food industries.
