Anthrax
Anthrax is a potentially fatal bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis. It mostly affects animals, though it is also possible for humans to contract it through contact with infected animals or animal products. The most common form of transmission is through inhalation of contaminated air or ingestion of contaminated food or water. It can also spread through skin contact with infected animals or animal products. Anthrax has been used as a biowarfare agent, making it a credible threat to human health. This has fueled research into treatment and prevention methods, making it a key area of study for public health science.
