Amoebiasis
Amoebiasis is an infectious disease caused by a type of unicellular parasite known as Entamoeba histolytica. It is a common cause of diarrhea, dysentery and other gastrointestinal problems, mainly in tropical and subtropical countries. Amoebiasis can be symptomatic, meaning the person infected experiences the symptoms and can spread the disease, or asymptomatic, wherein the person is a carrier but does not show any symptoms. The disease is mainly spread through contaminated water and food, and it can also be passed on through direct contact with an infected person. Treatment involves medications, such as antibiotics, and in some cases, surgery may be necessary. Preventive measures include proper hygiene, safe drinking water, and proper sanitation.
