Overview

Healthcare policy refers to the decisions, plans, and actions that shape how health services are organized, financed, delivered, and accessed within a society. It addresses questions of resource allocation, quality and safety, equity of access, regulation, and the structure of health systems, and it directly affects the care available to populations, including vulnerable groups such as older adults. In the context of aging, healthcare policy is concerned with ensuring that health systems can meet the growing and complex needs of an aging population. This topic falls within the scope of Aging Research And Healthcare, and reported research relevant here includes a study of the facilitators and barriers to healthcare access among the elderly, examined from a health-system perspective through the views of managers and service providers, and an evaluation of quality-improvement strategies in mid-level private healthcare facilities using a Donabedian model-based approach. These studies address access, organization, and quality, which are core concerns of healthcare policy. This page gathers open-access, peer-reviewed research relevant to healthcare policy and the delivery of care to aging populations.
