Sepals

Sepals are small, green leaves or bracts found in a flower's bud. They form a protective layer around the petals and reproductive organs of a flower, preventing dehydration and encouraging the safe formation of new buds and flowers. Sepals play an important role in pollination as they are often brightly colored, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Sepals may also have a scent which further assists in pollination. They play an important role in plant reproduction as they protect and hold the petals together until ready for pollination. Sepals are an integral part of a flower and are essential for the growth and life cycle of the plant.
