Ricinus
communis Ricinus communis, commonly called the castor oil plant, is a flowering shrub native to the subtropical and tropical areas of Africa and Asia. It is well known for its medicinal and industrial uses, with its seeds producing a distinctive pale yellow oil that is widely used for its therapeutic properties to treat various medical conditions. It is believed to have anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-diarrheal, and anti-fungal properties that can help with skin and scalp problems, asthma, chronic cough, constipation, and joint pain. Ricinus Communis oil has also been used for centuries as an industrial lubricant and has recently become of interest in the manufacture of eco-friendly bioplastics. As an ornamental plant, it is admired for its glossy green foliage, bright red seeds, and red-tinged stems.
