Rhizosphere

The rhizosphere is the region of soil surrounding the root of a plant. It is the most biologically active layer of soil and contains vast populations of microbes, including bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms. These organisms provide key functions to the plant such as promoting growth and development, providing essential nutrients, and protecting against disease. The organisms in this region also improve the overall soil quality by enhancing water infiltration, aeration, and nutrient availability. As a result, understanding the rhizosphere is essential for sustainable agriculture and ecosystem health.
