Plant Tropisms
Plant tropisms are growth responses of a plant to external stimuli and are essential for their survival in the environment. Examples of plant tropisms include phototropism (response to light) and gravitropism (response to gravity). They are regulated by the movement of hormones that cause differential growth of plant tissues and organs, allowing the plant to be oriented in the direction of the source of stimuli. Plant tropisms enable the plant to capture sunlight, maximize nutrient absorption and disperse seeds by using them to capture air flow, maximizing the efficiency of photosynthesis and ensuring efficient pollination. They are therefore essential for the survival of plants and play a crucial role in the overall health of the environment.
