Plant Microbiology
PlantMicrobiology is the scientific study of thefunctioning ofmicrobes in and around plants. It explores their role in plants' growth and development, as well as their interaction with the environment. Plant microbes are essential for the health and productivity of cultivated plants, providing nitrogen, other essential nutrients, and protection from disease. For example, beneficial microorganisms can protect crops from harmful fungi, bacteria, and viruses, while nitrogen-fixing bacteria can help farm productivity. Furthermore, the use of plant microbiology in biotechnology helps us to engineer new varieties of plants with increased resistance to disease, improved nutrition and other desirable characteristics. Plant microbiology is thus an important field for increasing crop yields, improving food security and reducing the use of agricultural chemicals.
