Plant-herbivore Interactions
Plant-herbivore interactions are important symbiotic relationships in terrestrial ecosystems, involving plants and their herbivorous consumers. They play an essential role in the dynamics of energy and nutrient flows in an ecosystem, as herbivore consumption of plants constitutes the major source of energy for the consumers and plant production is fundamental for the maintenance of the population of herbivores. Furthermore, herbivores can have an important role in promoting plant growth and diversity. In addition, the structure of plant-herbivore interactions can be used to assess the health of ecosystems and to determine the ecosystem services they provide. Thus, understanding the dynamics and effects of these interactions is essential for conserving and managing natural ecosystems.
