Plant Genetics and Crop Biotechnology
Plant genetics and crop biotechnology is the application of biotechnology to the genetic improvement of plants in order to increase their productivity and the quality of the crop. By studying the genetic makeup of plants, scientists can understand how to manipulate them to achieve desired traits. This can be used to increase crop yields and make more efficient use of available resources, such as land and water. Additionally, crop biotechnology can be used to develop plants that are resistant to pests and diseases, require fewer chemicals to grow, and require less manual labour to tend. As a result, crop biotechnology can improve the environmental sustainability of agricultural production and make food production more efficient.
