Plant Cytogenetics and Cytology
Plant Cytogenetics and Cytology are the study of the cellular and genetic structure of plants. This research is important in a variety of areas of plant biology, in including crop improvement, gene mapping and the understanding of many fundamental processes of plant development and nutrition. Cytogenetics is the study of the structure and function of chromosomes, whereas cytology is the study of the cellular organisation of the plant. This field has enabled researchers to better understand the mechanisms of inheritance, crop improvement and the discovery of genes that are important to plant health. Cytology has also enabled scientists to better understand the physiology of plant-environment interactions, as well as to make more informed plant selection decisions. Plant Cytogenetics and Cytology are crucial to the advancement of plant science research as they provide invaluable insight into the mechanisms and structure of plants.
