Plant Biochemistry
Plant biochemistry is the scientific study of the chemical and biochemical processes that occur in plants. It encompasses the study of the metabolic pathways, chemical reactions, and metabolic regulation that are essential for plant growth, development and metabolism. Plant biochemistry plays an important role in agriculture, forestry, and horticulture, and also in the development of pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and industrial products. Additionally, it can help to understand many aspects of human nutrition, as many dietary components and supplements have their origin in plants. Knowledge of plant biochemistry can also be applied to environmental questions, for example to assist with the development of novel strategies for carbon sequestration and biomass utilization.
