Plant Bacterial Pathogens
Plant bacterial pathogens are a group of bacteria that cause disease in plants. They can cause serious damage to crops, leading to reduced yields, or even complete destruction. Bacterial pathogens can also spread from infected plants to other healthy plants, leading to epidemics that can devastate entire crop fields. Control of plant bacterial pathogens is essential to maintain or increase production of food crops. Plant breeders and plant pathologists work together to develop resistant varieties of plants, while scientists use molecular techniques to identify and understand the molecular basis of disease. In addition, microbiologists are investigating ways to control bacterial pathogens using biocontrol agents and other strategies.
