Pistils
Pistils are important reproductive parts of flowers, with their main role being to receive pollen from the stamen, the male reproductive organ of the flower. This is necessary for the plant to reproduce and create the seeds which will become new plants. Pistils are formed of a stigma, a style and an ovary, and they come in different shapes, sizes and colors depending on the species of flower. Additionally, pistils also have a functional role in providing the flower with nectar and providing pollinators with a food source. As part of the process of pollination, bees, butterflies and other insects are attracted to the pistils’ coloring and shape.
