Phytophthora

Phytophthora is a type of water mold, or oomycete, that is a close relative of fungi. It is a major plant pathogen and has caused some of the most serious plant diseases, such as the potato blight. Phytophthora has a wide geographic spread and is particularly damaging in tropical and subtropical regions where warm and wet climates are favourable to its growth. Phytophthora can be used in a variety of ways in agriculture, such as for the control of weeds and for the protection of crops. It is also used in forestry by introducing the pathogen to help maintain biodiversity and protect the health of trees and wooded areas. Phytophthora plays an important role in monitoring the health of ecosystems and is a valuable tool for managing the spread of disease.
