Phytochemistry

Phytochemistry is the study of naturally occurring compounds in plants. It involves investigating the structure and function of these compounds and exploring how they are involved in the processes and activities of plants. Phytochemical research has allowed us to understand the chemistry of plants and how their compounds have medicinal, nutritional and other beneficial applications, such as providing natural flavors, colors and fragrances for food products and pharmaceuticals. Through phytochemistry, we can develop healthier and safer food, provide new sources of potential drugs, and identify chemicals in plants that can be utilized in the development of advanced materials.
