Pericarp

Pericarp is part of the mature fruit of a flowering plant and is made up of several layers of tissues that protect the seed of the plant. It is vitally important for the reproductive success of the plant as it controls the passage of air and water, safeguards the plant’s seeds and aids in their dispersal. Pericarp can also be used to produce a variety of edible and medicinal products such as jellies, jams, juices and herbal remedies. By consuming these products, we can benefit from its nutritional content as it contains essential vitamins and minerals.
