Mesophyll
Mesophyll is a tissue that is specialized for efficient photosynthesis. It is found in the leaves of vascular plants, located between the upper and lower epidermis. Mesophyll has two types of cells: chloroplasts and air spaces, which separate them. Chloroplasts contain the pigments that capture light and the enzymes that facilitate photosynthesis. The air spaces enable efficient gas exchange, which allows plants to absorb carbon dioxide from the environment and release oxygen. Mesophyll is an essential component of photosynthesis and a key factor for the survival of plants and the overall functioning of the environment.
