Meristems

Meristems are tissues found in some plants and other organisms that are responsible for growth and development. They are primarily composed of undifferentiated cells that are capable of division and differentiation, meaning they can turn into other types of cells that can perform specific functions in the plant. Meristems are essential for plant growth and development, as they are the sites of cell division and differentiation that allow for the development of new roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits. The presence of healthy meristematic tissue is also essential for a plant’s response to stress, injury, and disease. Meristems are therefore greatly beneficial for the growth, health, and longevity of plants.
