Lotus
corniculatus Lotus corniculatus, commonly known as Birds-foot Trefoil, is a perennial legume-bearing plant that is native to Europe and parts of Asia. It is an important crop plant in many countries and is used in hay, green manuring, and pasture-based livestock production systems. It also has various medicinal uses, including as a mild laxative, diuretic, and antifungal. Its deep roots and nitrogen-fixing abilities make it a highly resilient and important contributor to soil health. It is a pioneer species in ecological succession, rapidly colonizing disturbed and inhospitable soils and providing vital habitat for pollinators and other wildlife in the process.
