Khat

Khat is a plant, native to East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, that contains an illicit stimulant called cathinone. Khat has been widely used throughout these regions for centuries as a stimulant, social lubricant, and spiritual enhancer, though it is illegal in many countries. The active ingredient in khat, cathinone, produces stimulant effects similar to amphetamines, such as increased alertness, energy, and euphoria, but with fewer and milder side effects. It can lead to physical and psychological dependence, and long-term use of Khat can lead to cardiovascular and mental health issues. Khat is currently being studied for its potential medical applications, including its ability to help treat depression and anxiety.
