Gentian is a genus of flowering plants, native to temperate and subtropical regions of the world. Its members are known for their intense blue and white star-shaped flowers and strong medicinal properties. The use of gentian has been recorded since the time of ancient Greece, and its extracts have been used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat a variety of ailments, such as digestive disorders, jaundice, fever, and liver issues. Recent research has also suggested that gentian root may be beneficial in treating certain mental health conditions and inflammation. In addition, gentian extracts are also used in the production of a variety of alcoholic beverages, such as bitters and vermouth.
