Food Security
Food security is the ability to have reliable access to food in an adequate amount and at an affordable cost. It is closely tied to nutrition and health, agricultural development, resilience to food crises, and access to safe and nutritious food. Food security is achieved when all people at all times have access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life. Effective food security strategies help to protect communities against the impacts of natural disasters, economic shocks, and political instability, while also preventing malnutrition and food-related disease. Improving food security can have knock-on benefits such as better economic growth, improved livelihoods, and improved education.
