Dicotyledons
Dicotyledons are flowering plants that are characterized by their two embryonic seed leaves (cotyledons). These plants have a wide variety of uses, including as food crops (e.g. beans, peas, and certain fruits), medicinal plants, ornamentals, and timber. The dicotyledon group also contains many species of wild plants, some of which are important to humans as they may provide sources of food, medicine, or timber to local communities around the world. Dicotyledons are ecologically important, as they act as food sources for both insects and animals, and they provide habitats for many species of animals. Furthermore, they are important in the carbon cycle, as they photosynthesize and produce oxygen.
