Bryology
Bryology is the branch of botany that deals with the scientific study of mosses, liverworts, and hornworts - collectively referred to as "bryophytes". Bryophytes are an important component in many ecosystems, playing an essential role in regulating hydrological cycles, maintaining soil fertility, and providing food and shelter for small animals. They are also important indicators of environmental health, as some species of bryophytes can only survive in pristine conditions, and rapid changes in their populations can signal changes in the quality of an environment. Bryology is a key tool for understanding how human activities are affecting the environment. By studying bryophytes, scientists are better able to detect and analyze changes in the natural environment, and develop more effective methods for conservation and management.
