Nanoscience
Nanoscience is a rapidly growing scientific field that deals with the manipulation, investigation and understanding of structures, systems, and materials at the nanoscale level; typically defined as ranging from 1 to 100 nanometers (1 nanometer equals 1 billionth of a meter). Nanoscience is significant in that it provides the ability to harness the unique physical, optical, and chemical properties found at the nanoscale. These properties can then be applied to a range of scientific applications and technologies including medical devices, energy, and electronics. Due to its small size, nanoscience can be used to create more powerful and efficient devices, as well as less chemically intensive processes, which can improve the sustainability of the technologies and products we use today.
