Therapeutic Equipoise
Therapeutic equipoise is a concept in medical ethics which states that when a treatment is developed, the benefits and risks should be weighed carefully in order to ensure ethical treatments and minimize potential harm to the patient. In other words, therapeutic equipoise means that a doctor must decide whether a proposed treatment is worth the potential risks and side effects. This concept is important because it emphasizes the importance of patient safety and well-being, while also helping doctors to make sound medical decisions. Therapeutic equipoise is also used to guide research protocols, ensuring that any trials conducted are conducted according to ethical standards and that the benefits outweigh the potential risks of the treatment or procedure.
