Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy is a type of medical treatment that helps the body’s natural defense system, the immune system, fight diseases such as cancer. It uses substances made by the body or in a laboratory to boost, direct, or restore the body’s natural defenses against cancer, enabling the body to better recognize, attack, and destroy cancer cells. Immunotherapy can be used alone or along with other treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy to treat cancer, offering new hope for many patients, who may have had limited success with other treatments. It has proven to be very effective in some cancers, and can improve health outcomes, reduce side effects, and extend survival.
