Designing of Drugs
Drug design (also known as rational drug design or structure-based drug design) is a method used in modern drug development to identify potential drugs which have a strong likelihood of being effective and safe. Drug design is a process used to design small molecule drugs that are likely to have the desired biological activity. The process combines knowledge of medicinal chemistry, computer-aided drug design (CADD) and a thorough understanding of the target's structure and associated mechanisms of action. This type of drug design is used to develop innovative therapies that improve patient care and reduce drug development costs. Drug design has the potential to reduce the cost and time of drug development and increase the success rate by focusing on a drug's desired properties.
