Repair of Trochanteric Fracture
A trochanteric fracture is a break in the upper part of the femur (thigh bone), usually caused by a fall or severe trauma. As the femur is a weight-bearing bone, repair of a trochanteric fracture is essential to restore the integrity of the bone and proper function of the hip and lower extremity. Surgery is often necessary to repair the fracture with plates, screws, or intramedullary nails placed across the fracture site, and to protect the site while it heals. An early return to mobility and activities of daily living is essential for successful recovery. Properly managed rehabilitation can help promote healing and recovery, decrease pain and swelling, and reduce risks of complications.
