Polymyalgia Rheumatica Treatment
Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is a disorder of the muscles and joints causing pain and stiffness in the shoulders, neck, hips, and upper arms. Treatment typically involves anti-inflammatory medications, such as corticosteroids, to reduce inflammation and relieve discomfort. Physical and occupational therapy can also help to improve strength, flexibility, and range of motion. Exercise is often recommended to maintain joint mobility and strengthen affected muscles. In some cases, other medications such as immunosuppressants or biologic drugs may be used. Treatment for PMR is important because symptoms can worsen without it, leading to an increased risk of chronic joint damage and disability.
