Polymyalgia Rheumatica

Polymyalgia rheumatica is an inflammatory disorder that causes muscle pain and stiffness in the neck, shoulders, and hips, along with general fatigue. It is most common in people over 65 who are of Northern European descent. While there is no known cause for polymyalgia rheumatica, certain environmental, genetic, and lifestyle factors may play a role. Treatment typically involves the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and, in more severe cases, corticosteroids to reduce inflammation. Early diagnosis and treatment can be important to preventing complications from this disorder.
