Low Back Intervertebral Disc Surgery
Low Back Intervertebral Disc Surgery is an important minimally invasive procedure used to treat severe back pain attributed to herniated, bulging, and degenerative discs in the spine. The goal of the surgery is to remove the damaged disc material and re-stabilize the spine to provide relief from pain. Disc removal is performed through a small incision in the abdomen or lower back, allowing the surgeon to insert a special instrument into the disc space to remove the offending material. Following the surgery, the spine is then stabilized with a combination of screws, rods and/or fusion techniques. In some cases, the surgeon may opt to implant a replacement artificial disc to maintain the normal disc height in the spine. Low Back Intervertebral Disc Surgery is generally safe and effective, offering significant reductions in pain and improved mobility for many patients.
