Gigantism
Gigantism is a medical condition characterized by an abnormal growth of the body due to excessive production of the growth hormone. It is caused by the abnormal growth of a benign tumor on the pituitary gland, the gland responsible for producing the growth hormone. It can be diagnosed in both children and adults, and its severity is based on its cause. Common symptoms of gigantism include over-tall stature, disproportionate body parts, delayed sexual development, and psychological problems. Treatment of gigantism aims to reduce the levels of the growth hormone in the body through surgery, radiation, or medications. With appropriate treatment, the prognosis of gigantism is generally good.
