Fibula

The fibula is a slender and long bone located in the lower leg, right above and parallel to the tibia. It is involved in the formation of the ankle joint, and provides strength and stability to the leg. The fibula is also important in maintaining the proper alignment of the tibia, which is the main weight-bearing bone of the leg. In addition, the fibula is an attachment site for numerous muscles, ligaments, and tendons, including the muscles of the calf, the anterior talofibular and calcaneofibular ligaments, and the Achilles tendon. Fibula fractures are common, especially in sports injuries, and can be severe and require surgical repair or immobilization to heal.
