Arthrocentesis

Arthrocentesis, also known as joint aspiration, is a medical procedure in which a needle is inserted into a joint in order to extract joint fluid. It is usually used to diagnose and treat joint problems such as joint pain, swelling, and infection. This procedure has the potential to provide clinicians with diagnostic information, as well as provide temporary relief from symptoms associated with joint problems. Additionally, arthrocentesis can be used therapeutically for the injection of corticosteroids, antibiotics and other medications for the treatment of joint problems.
