Antiphospholipid Syndrome
Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by the production of autoantibodies that bind to phospholipids, resulting in an increased risk of blood clots and other serious medical problems. It is associated with an increased risk of stroke, pregnancy complications, and thrombotic events. Treatment with anticoagulants and other drugs is often necessary to reduce the risk of blood clot formation. Diagnosis of APS involves blood tests that measure for autoantibodies and other tests that help to identify the underlying cause. Early detection and treatment of APS can help to reduce long-term complications and improve outcomes.
