Rice Research
Rice Research is the study of the production and cultivation of the cereal grain rice. Rice is a major food crop for more than half of the world's population and is an important source of nutrition for people across the globe. Rice Research seeks to improve the yield, quality, and sustainability of rice production. Scientists have developed new farming techniques, such as alternate wetting and drying and direct seeding, to increase yield while using less water. Rice Research also addresses the effects of climate change, pests, diseases, and weeds on production and is developing improved varieties of rice to address these problems. In addition, researchers are exploring breeding and genetic engineering to improve the quality and nutritional value of the grain. Rice Research helps ensure that current and future generations are able to enjoy a secure, healthy and nutritious food supply that is economically sustainable.
