Plant Genetics
Plant genetics is the study of inheritance and the expression of genes within plants. It is an important field of biosciences which has led to a better understanding of how plants work, and has been used to produce new varieties of plants with improved traits. For example, plant genetics has been used to develop plants which are more resistant to pests, more tolerant of drought and salt, and more productive. Plant genetics is also used in biotechnology applications, such as selecting plants which require fewer chemical inputs, or manufacturing plants which produce pharmaceuticals.
