Phytochemistry

Phytochemistry is the study of the chemical compounds and processes that occur in plants. It takes a closer look at the secondary metabolites, a small molecule present in plants, and the effects they have on plant growth and development. These molecules have a biological purpose, such as defensive compounds that protect plants from predators, attract pollinators, or help them adapt to their environment. Additionally, phytochemicals have been shown to have various health benefits for humans. These secondary metabolites have been shown to have antioxidative, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties, making them important sources of nutrition and medicine.
